Formentera with children

Traveling to the island of Formentera with children can undoubtedly be a fantastic family experience. We always recommend visiting Formentera 365 days a year, but if we want to enjoy the sea and the island’s incredible beaches, the best thing, of course, is to visit the island in the summer.
When we travel with children we normally look for some peace and space to enjoy them without large crowds, which is why we strongly recommend visiting the island in the months of May, June, September and October. These months the island already enjoys a perfect temperature for swimming but without the crowds of the high season such as July and August.

Both the beaches and the roads and towns are quieter but with all services open, so we can enjoy relaxing in a beach kiosk or stroll quietly through its streets visiting shops and terraces.

This trip is often ruled out due to the inconvenience of having to take several means of transportation, but in reality it is not as hard as it seems. You can get to Ibiza by plane in almost 30 minutes from any point on the peninsula, normally from Barcelona or Valencia, which would be the shortest routes. Once on the island, taking a taxi from Ibiza airport to the port to catch the ferry takes about 10 minutes maximum, and once at the port the ferry from Ibiza to Formentera takes 30 minutes more. If everything goes well in a few hours we can be on the island without problems. Once in Formentera, the car rental services (motorcycle recommended) are in the same port of La Savina where the ferry arrives, on the first line so with a 2-minute walk we can be picking up our car (we recommend prior reservation online) and going out to enjoy the island to the fullest. If we have a travel package that leaves us directly at the accommodation, nothing happens since the rentals have a vehicle delivery service at any point on the island, or at the door of our accommodation.
Once installed on the island, it offers us the possibility of being and visiting any beach or area in no more than 20-30 minutes since it only has 82 square kilometers of surface.

There are many different options, from a hotel, an apartment or a small house in the countryside. Our experience always opts for a private apartment or house in the countryside, so not only will we have all the comforts of having a kitchen and other services in the accommodation itself, but we will also be able to enjoy pleasant and fun walks in the countryside without having to take the car or move around loaded with toys and gadgets. From here we recommend the areas of Migjorn and Es Calo, which have various types of accommodation in natural areas in the countryside where you can enjoy the magic and tranquility of the island and give us the opportunity for those incredible family walks.
