Rental and booking of all types of boats, motorboats, and sailboats in Formentera. Choose between boats that require no nautical license or options that include a skipper. You can also select from the best organized boat excursions on the island of Formentera.

Boat rentals without a nautical qualification/license

It is no longer possible to rent a boat without some form of nautical qualification. For further information, you can submit an inquiry/booking form for the specific vessel you are interested in to learn more and see what rental options are available.

Boat rentals with or without a skipper included

Rental of all types of vessels—including motorboats, inflatables (Zodiacs), sailboats, catamarans, and rigid-inflatable boats (RIBs)—available either with a skipper or, provided you hold the appropriate nautical license for the specific type of vessel, without one.

Boat rentals with the option to stay overnight. Day/night rentals.

These vessels can be rented not just for specific hours during the day; they can also be rented for multiple days, with no requirement to return to port—unless you wish to—and no need to return the vessel on the same day it was rented. Multi-day rentals with no set time constraints.

Boat excursions and private charters with a skipper

Explore the crystal-clear waters of Formentera with the help of local experts. Whether you wish to join an organized excursion to discover the island’s most iconic coves, or prefer the exclusivity of a private charter with a skipper to design your own bespoke itinerary, you can book directly with official nautical companies. This ensures real-time availability, expert guidance, and the best prices—free from intermediary commissions.

Practical tips for sailing in Formentera

Sailing through the island’s turquoise waters is an unmissable experience, but it requires some planning. To ensure your day at sea is perfect—whether you join an organized group or charter your own vessel—preparation is key. Always remember to book in advance during the summer months, use marine-safe sunscreen, and, most importantly, strictly follow anchoring regulations to protect our *Posidonia oceanica* seagrass meadows. Enjoy the Mediterranean in a safe, mindful, and sustainable way.

Protection of Posidonia Seagrass

Anchoring over Posidonia Oceanica meadows is strictly prohibited and heavily fined. If you are renting without a skipper, anchor exclusively on sand or use the authorized eco-buoys.

The Wind Dictates the Route

In Formentera, the weather dictates your heading. If an Easterly (Levante) wind blows, you should sail along the western coast (such as Cala Saona or Illetes), and vice versa, to ensure calm, wave-free waters.

Protected Areas and Buoyage

Espalmador and Illetes belong to the Ses Salines Natural Park. Landing on the beach with motorized watercraft outside of marked channels is prohibited. Always respect the 200m yellow swimmer demarcation line.

Onboard Essentials

Always bring biodegradable sunscreen (crucial to protect the marine ecosystem), sunglasses, a cap, and some warm clothing for sunset. If you are prone to seasickness, take Dramamine 30 minutes before setting sail.

Frequently asked questions about boats and excursions

Do I need a license to rent a boat in Formentera?
It depends on the type of vessel. There are small boats (typically up to 5 meters in length and 15 HP of power) that can be rented without a license, but starting October 1, 2026, exact information must be requested to verify whether they can be rented without a license or with a basic license. For larger motorboats, RIBs, or yachts, it is mandatory to present a valid license (Navigation License, PNB, PER, or international equivalent). If you do not have a license, you can always rent any boat by adding the service of a professional skipper.
What is the difference between an organized excursion and a private charter?
An organized excursion is shared with other passengers, has a fixed route and schedule (e.g., tour around the island or Illetes route), and is the most economical option. A private charter means you rent the vessel exclusively for you and your group (with a skipper); this gives you complete freedom to choose the route, the time spent at each cove, and the pace of the day, offering a much more intimate and personalized experience.
Is fuel included in the price?
On organized (shared) excursions, all expenses are included. However, for boat rentals (with or without a skipper), fuel is generally NOT included in the base price. The boat is delivered with a full tank, and at the end of the day, the consumed fuel is calculated and paid for, unless it is clearly specified as an "All-Inclusive" price.
Can we go and disembark on the island of Espalmador?
Yes, you can sail to Espalmador, but as it is a strictly protected Natural Park, there are rules. It is strictly prohibited to drive a motorized boat right up to the beach sand. You must anchor in the permitted areas (always on sand, never on posidonia seagrass) and reach the shore swimming or using a paddle surf board. Remember that there are no services, beach bars, or trash cans of any kind on Espalmador.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day of our reservation?
Safety is the absolute priority. If on the day of your reservation weather conditions (strong wind, waves, or storm) do not allow safe navigation, the nautical company will cancel the trip. In these cases, we always try to offer an alternative date that suits you. If it is not possible to reschedule due to your travel dates, a full refund of the reservation amount is issued.
What does a boat or catamaran excursion usually include?
Most organized half-day or full-day excursions include the guided tour, swimming stops in crystal-clear waters, use of snorkeling equipment (mask and snorkel), and generally drinks on board (water, soft drinks, and in some cases beer or sangria) and a small snack. Check the details of each excursion to know the exact menu.
