Espalmador Island

The island of Espalmador is located in the northern area of Formentera. This is a private island and entry through the interior is not permitted. In the southern area there is one of the most beautiful and visited (public) beaches in Formentera: S’Alga beach. The most comfortable and fastest access is by boat, or through a regular line that leaves from the port of La Savina and from Es Ministre beach in Illetas or by renting a small private boat. Some people access Espalmador on foot but it is not advisable due to the danger of the currents that exist between the two islands.

This paradisiacal and virgin beach is characterized by having a kilometer dimension, made up of fine pinkish white sand, an extensive dune system occupying its rear part, fixed by junipers and crystal clear water. One of its attractions is the sulfurous mud bath which, supposedly, has beneficial effects on the skin, although due to the privacy of the island its access is prohibited.

The marine and underwater conditions recommend anchoring a boat taking maximum precautions, since there are reefs, islets, shoals and shallow depth, although a small boat is the perfect way to get to know the island.

Access to the beach of s’Alga can only be carried out by boat, either privately owned or with the Barca Bahía that makes a regular line to the island of Espalmador departing from the Port of La Savina and the beach of Illetas. Even so, it registers a massive influx of local bathers and tourists.

We recommend a visit to Espalmador because it is an almost unique opportunity to access a completely deserted island since it does not have any type of service such as restaurants, kiosks, bars, hammocks or umbrellas, just an extensive beach where you can enjoy one of the waters. cleanest on the island.
