Formentera in one day: the perfect route to discover the best of the island
Visiting Formentera in a single day is entirely feasible if you plan your itinerary well. While it is ideal to spend more time there to soak up its tranquil atmosphere, a 24-hour getaway from Ibiza still allows you to discover its most spectacular beaches, charming villages, and some of the most iconic Mediterranean landscapes.
Key information before you start
Vehicle limitations: If you are crossing with your own car or motorcycle, remember that between June and September it is mandatory to request a prior circulation permit on formentera.eco. The island limits the capacity of private vehicles to protect its environmental fragility.
Ferry arrival: The usual route is to fly to Ibiza and take a fast ferry (about a 30-minute trip) to the Port of La Savina. We recommend taking the first boat in the morning (around 07:00 AM) and returning on the last ones (10:30 PM or 11:00 PM). Use code 2026VISITFORMENTERA to get up to a 25% discount on your tickets.
Recommended itinerary: 24 hours in Formentera
Morning: Ses Illetes Beach, the jewel of the island
As soon as you disembark and pick up your rental vehicle in La Savina, head towards the Es Trucadors peninsula. Ses Illetes is the island's most iconic beach, famous for its crystal-clear waters, white sand, and protected dune environment. In July and August, the parking lot fills up very quickly, so arriving early is essential.
Local tip: If a westerly wind is blowing and the sea is choppy, you just have to walk a few meters and cross to the other side of the sand strip (Llevant Beach) to find completely calm waters.
Noon: Sant Francesc Xavier
After a morning of sun and sea, it's time to recharge. Sant Francesc is the administrative and commercial heart of Formentera. Get lost in its pedestrian streets of white houses and visit its imposing 18th-century fortified church, located in the main square.
From 10:00 AM to 02:00 PM you can browse its small daytime market. In addition, the streets surrounding the square house some of the best inland restaurants on the island, perfect for eating away from the hustle and bustle of purely beach areas.
Afternoon: Es Cap de Barbaria Lighthouse
Drive south through an increasingly rugged and lunar landscape until you reach the designated parking area. From there, a pleasant 30-minute walk (approximately 2 km) awaits you along a narrow road closed to traffic that leads directly to the lighthouse.
The open horizon, vertical cliffs, and famous perforated cave (Cova Foradada) make this place one of the most magical and photographed spots in the Mediterranean.
Sunset: Magic in Cala Saona
No visit to Formentera is complete without a good sunset. Head to the west coast to reach Cala Saona, a U-shaped bay framed by reddish rock cliffs. Its turquoise waters contrast spectacularly with the sunset colors.
You can enjoy this natural spectacle sitting directly on its white sand or having a cocktail at the beach bar overlooking the cove.
Night: Dinner in La Savina and return
To close the day stress-free, we recommend driving back to the Port of La Savina, returning your rental vehicle, and having dinner on the promenade. This way you will be a step away from the maritime station, without rush or last-minute travel, ready to board the nighttime ferry back to Ibiza after an unforgettable day.
