Ses Illetes beach in Formentera
The entire western area, stretching from the port of La Savina to the northern tip of Formentera, consists of various beaches and coves that are easily accessible. It is one of the most visited parts of the island.
Punta d'Es Trucadors
Pas de n’Adolf, es Pas or Pas de s’Espalmador is located five kilometers from La Savina, situated between the points of des Trucadors and des Pas, where nudism is commonly practiced.
On days with good weather, you can cross walking across this strip of sand—covered by less than a meter of water—from Formentera toward the largest of the islands situated among the Pityusic Islands, Illa de s’Espalmador (2.925 kilometers long, 800 meters wide, and 22 meters maximum height; private property, although freely accessible). On bad weather days, you must arrive via a small boat, since this strait only admits a minimum draft.
Punta des Trucadors is Formentera's northernmost spot and is characterized by a north-to-south orientation, an enormous extension, a slope composed of sand and rock, crystal-clear water, and a sandy seabed, as well as being exposed to southwest-west-northwest-north winds.
The channel (freo) located north of Punta des Trucadors is dangerous for navigation. There are also shallows at a depth of 2.5 meters located south of the beach, about four hectometers north of Illa des Pouet.
Access by road is easy following the road signs and detours. Private vehicles, mopeds, or bicycles can be parked for free at Platja de ses Illetes. From this point, a pedestrian route begins toward es Pas de n’Adolf.
If the beach has lifeguard surveillance, you are required to follow the lifeguards' instructions and flag signaling. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming and implies a ban on swimming. A yellow flag indicates caution, but swimming is permitted. A green flag indicates swimming is allowed. An orange flag is used to indicate that the lifeguard is absent. If the beach does not have surveillance or the service is not operational, be prudent and enjoy the beach while avoiding unnecessary risks.
Illetas Beach
The beaches of Illetas, located at the northernmost point of the island and closest to the island of Espalmador (just 150 meters away), are the most visited and crowded by visitors to Formentera. We can access this area from the main road leaving the Port of La Savina, or via the same main road coming from the village of Es Pujols.
In this beach we can find several restaurants, specialized like the vast majority in seafood, fish, and paellas. In the Illetas area, there are some of the island's best-known restaurants such as Es Molí de Sal, El Pirata, Restaurante Juan y Andrea, or Restaurante Es Ministre, all of them with parking for cars and motorcycles, as well as a free customer pickup service in boats if you visit this area from the sea.
You can access this area with any vehicle, although visiting on foot or by bicycle is recommended to better enjoy the landscape, contribute to its environmental protection, and pass for free, as Illetas is one of Formentera's beaches with a toll for visitors traveling by motor vehicle. In addition, part of this area is not accessible by vehicles, only on foot, due to the irregularity of the terrain.
In Illetas we find restaurant services, sun loungers and parasols, walkways for people with disabilities, pedal boat rentals, and rentals for everything needed to enjoy water sports like sailing.
From the Illetas beach area we can enjoy one of the island's most beautiful panoramas as well as one of the best-known excursions while approaching Espalmador Island. Since it is situated on Formentera's northern tip (long and narrow), we can stroll peacefully with the sea and beach on both sides of the path, enjoying a refreshing swim from time to time until reaching the end where we find Es Pas d´Es Trucadors, which is the separation channel between Formentera and Espalmador. Although some tourists swim across to Espalmador Island, it is not recommended and is forbidden due to currents that make the crossing very dangerous.
Es Cavall d'En Borras
Es Cavall d’en Borràs is located two kilometers from La Savina, situated between Cala Savina and Platgeta des Carregador. In this natural environment, you can admire the majestic and enigmatic silhouette of the Ibizan islets es Vedrà and es Vedranell, with peaks of 382 and 128 meters, respectively.
This quiet beach is characterized by medium dimensions, a slope of fine white sand, a northward orientation, an absence of waves, a very gentle slope (at 50 meters from the shore, a depth of 1.5 meters is reached), as well as a sandy seabed covered with seaweed.
This coastal corner forms part of the Ses Salines Natural Area of Special Interest. The rear part of this wild-looking sandy area is occupied by a dune system, as well as a lush sabina forest that extends toward the nearby Estany Pudent and Formentera Salt Flats. At the same time, it is located close to the Port of La Savina.
